Blog post.

I'll admit that I'm old compared to many of the Gen Zers that aren't my oldest. In the eyes of the young, even my "quarter of a century" year old is actually old in their eyes. I won't debate that. No need. They have their generation and I have mine.

But mine? Mine was one that connected analog with DNS and now fiber. Mine was about a Radio Shack TRS-80 that I could program to smile back at me using DOS. I learned how to type on an Apple in one classroom and how to save a file on a floppy disk with on a PC in another with Word built in. And I must mention that all of this was after a typewriter that could fix mistakes by erasing them on paper, AND develop into a word processor.

Yup! I've lived it all except AI. That's a dirty word for Gen X who was raised on the Terminator movies. We are cautious, because we know that with every progress, there comes a price.

But as I contemplate, I realize AI is all around us. And right down to a lot of the stories we get hooked into on reading sites through the phone. I'm actually NOT one of those authors that keep the "story going" with repeats of the same crap that never changes--OR? Dare I say? Doesn't write it myself! I'd never let a computer do that for me.

I craft my own stories from my own mind--not from a computer. But I am guilty of AI Every. Stinking. Time. I see a spelling mistake on Word. Every. Stinking. Time. I add a character to my database on ChickNovel. And? Every time I want to find out from either Grammarly OR ProwritingAid if I reused the same words too many times in one chapter because I refuse to make readers gloss over even a single word I write.

But, and I'm going to go to a quote that I haven't used in a while, but, that show STILL strikes a cord with me, "Here's the thing." (Monk) We aren't debating this about AI. We are debating an author who embraces AI so much so that they don't edit the story for content.

And why? I'm going to spell it out right here and now. We hate it because it's cheating. It's a ploy. It's click bait to get us to still remain vested in the story--PLOT HOLES and all!

And honestly? I'm trying to figure out why I do this myself. Why do I still read something that is so riddled with holes that it can make a slice of Swiss cheese whole!

Here's my honest truth in all of this. I truly believe the first 20 chapters are geared towards pulling you in. And once they have you, there's no edits. It's all about the AI generation of a chapter. It's never about developing a character or finding a solution. Plots from previous scenes are abandoned for click-bate.

I get it. I totally do that we've come to this. The thing that hurts my heart the most is that no child moving forward that is born will get anything about our rich history as a culture. As PEOPLE. We will just get a hard keystroke now.

Also? I want to thank all of the hard-working authors out there that would never do this to a reader. I want to thank every writer--whether it's Anime or a reporter or an author that still has a shred of morality that burns bright for this business.

We all have a calling. And it isn't about dopamine. It is about being raw with our readers!

I haven't done this in YEARS but this blog post calls to me to do so with my signature ending.

Stay Fabulous!

Amanda

Blog post.

Men are liars, Aya. Every last stinking one of them!

Those words from my older sister Shub rang through my mind, and I should have listened. The sea broke around me as I swam to the surface for the first time in my life.

All Lemurians could swim topside when they turned 15 years of age, but I never bothered. I had no interest in human men. If they were liars, they were useless to me. But staying in the ocean my entire life felt constricting. There were only so many conch shells I could find at the bottom of the sea. So, for my 100th birthday, I decided to live a little and sunbathe. I was the goddess of the sun—so soaking up some rays only seemed fitting.

I broke through the surface and perched on a nearby rock close to the shore. As a goddess of sunlight, I loved the warmth the rays provided. And when humans see the light, they are truthful. This pleased me greatly. Sadly, my brother, Onsu, didn’t share my sentiment. He took all the credit for the sun long ago, and I never forgave him for his lies. Why he did it—I’d never know because I couldn’t understand him or his deceptions. I believed that the darkness of the night had its blessings and beauty. You can’t stargaze during the day. And crickets and lightning bugs prove calming to even the most unsettled minds. The surroundings are serene to rest and refresh for another day. But he refused to see night’s beauty and lied to the humans, telling them he brought them light, not me. And because of this betrayal, I grouped my brother into the category of men who are liars.

Laughter broke my train of thought, and my head snapped around to connect a face to the vivacious belly laughter ringing through my ears. There was a Carolina skiff boat at anchor several feet away from my perch. I counted eight men on the large deck. I may never have desired to swim to the surface until now, but that didn’t mean I didn’t know about boats.

These men had mortal wealth, yet they didn’t appear venal in nature. The rich men my father talked about polluted the sea and were so rapacious that they took many species of fish from the ocean. Some like the Java stingaree no longer existed. Overfishing was a huge issue that Lemurians only seemed to care about, that is, until now. I watched as the men caught fish and quickly released them back into the sea. It was such a bizarre thing to do—at least to me, anyway.

One of the men tossed a fish out of the boat in my direction, and I crouched lower on the rock so the man wouldn’t notice my tail. I loved my tail and its iridescent hues of purple, green, and blue. But the thing lit up like a beach bonfire does in the night sky. Mermaids rarely swam this close to the shore because their Merform was like a lighthouse beacon to the naked human eye. I couldn’t risk exposing the Lemurian community to these human men. And if I weren’t royalty, I wouldn’t be able to hide my Merform from them. Because I’m a goddess, I can shift to human form at will. But if the man with the gorgeous laugh, blue topaz-colored eyes as vibrant as the sea, and dark hair caught a glimpse of me in human form on a rock in the middle of basically nowhere, how would I explain myself? What normal human being swims to a rock? Most of them, according to my father, stood on a flimsy board atop a wave. That idea was just preposterous. What human would willingly risk drowning for that type of satisfaction?

I crouched down further, eyes still locked on the man and his friends who were fishing. What would I say if they caught me staring at them? And why do I suddenly care so much about what that man thinks? I let out a huff in frustration. This was nuts. Why would I have to explain myself? I didn’t have to explain anything to him or any other man because I was a goddess and a princess of Lemuria. I glanced the other way, and it appeared I was far from shore. No human would be out this far without a boat, and I had none to point to. Perhaps I could have swum here for fun. Seemed more logical to me than standing on a piece of driftwood to ride the tide.

As I glanced back at the man with dark locks that seemed to glisten in the sunlight, I let out a sigh. It shouldn’t matter. And really, why would it if he saw me? As a goddess, others gave the explanations—not me because I was worshiped. In fact, centuries ago, humans worshiped me and many other Lemurian deities because we controlled the tides for the weak and ignorant humans.

I looked back at the man with blue topaz eyes as he let out a chuckle that seemed just as jovial as his belly laughter. My lower belly surged like waves when the tide is high. And for the first time since my brother betrayed me, I wanted to believe in those soulful eyes that belonged to a man.

The man and his companions were yelling now, breaking my train of thought.

“Hey! Watch out! Hey! We are here!”

Before I registered what was exactly happening, a boat was flying towards the men. They all jumped into the water to get out of the other boat’s way. At the last minute, the boat changed course, avoided the men, and rammed into a reef. My eyes darted to the men hoisting themselves back into the boat, but I couldn’t find the one with the dark hair and blue topaz eyes. I sucked in a breath and held it, waiting, hoping the man would surface, but as the moments passed, he didn’t.

The sound of a siren rang through the air as it bounced off the water. The mortal police would arrive on the scene, and I should risk exposing my kind to the humans. It was forbidden; my father made that law when the humans betrayed us and exiled us to the sea. The man’s life was in the hands of mortals. They’d find him. I was certain. But as the police boat sailed to the one that slammed into the other reef, my heart pounded faster and faster.

I counted the men on the boat, and the gorgeous man still hadn’t surfaced and got back on the boat.

It was all thanks to that stupid Civil Were War and pack politics.

Because of all that, no one in the Rose Moon Pack spoke to me. And that was perfectly fine. As far as I was concerned, the only person I could trust was myself.

My parents died during the war. Lenox and his rogue pack killed my father, the Alpha of the Blood Moon. My mother was slaughtered by association. At least that’s what Bane told me.

Before the attack, they hid me in the dungeon we never used. They prayed to the Mother Goddess that no one would find me. I was seventeen then.

“You need to hide here until the battle is over. Or—”

I swallowed hard, biting back the lump forming in my throat. Then I finished the words he’d drilled into me since the war began.

“Or stay until someone finds me in the aftermath. I remember, Papa. I promise.”

He kissed my forehead, his hands trembling. Then my mother pulled me into her arms. She held onto me longer than Papa had.

“We mean it, princess. Don’t leave.” Papa’s voice was tight. “We’re locking the door and lacing the bars with wolfsbane. It’s bad, baby. We wouldn’t do this unless we had no other choice.”

My chest clenched at his words.

“If we don’t make it—”

His controlled voice finally broke. I watched him inhale my pup-essence to steady himself.

“If no one comes for you in three days, then you break out yourself. The wolfsbane will wear off by then. The bars are painted to look like silver. Rogues won’t risk it coming near the bars, but higher ranks will know better.”

I made a mental note of what he’d said and took in a breath to prepare myself for what was to come.

“You have food and water. Enough to survive.” His grip tightened around my hand. “No one will take you, Beauty. You aren’t meant to be anyone’s prisoner. I promise you that.”

I tried to hold on to him for longer, but he was already locking the door.

The clicking sound shot through the stone walls, making it impossibly obvious that I was alone.

I ate when I was hungry and slept when tired, but time blurred the longer I was in the cell. As I picked up an apple and brought it to my lips, a memory of my father came to the forefront of my mind.

He’d always told me I differed from any other princess. I was stronger. I didn’t understand it. Nor did I understand my wolf could make Alphas want me for the wrong reasons. But I never questioned him because I never needed to.

I was their only child. The heir to the Blood Moon Pack and future Luna. Possibly Alpha. Maybe both.
<align-center>***</align-center><align-left>By the time the full moon waned on the third night, I knew no one was coming. That meant one thing. I had to break myself out.
I stepped toward the bars, lifting my hand, and froze as the dungeon door slammed open. A body crashed against it, and I gasped.
His emerald eyes locked onto mine.
The Bane Of My Existence was staring back at me.
Shit! Of all people the Moon Goddess could have sent? And I get him?
“Beauty!” His voice was urgent. “Why are you in here? Stand back—I smell the wolfsbane. I’ll kick it down to get you out.”
My stomach twisted because the last person I wanted saving me was him.
“I’m capable of getting out myself,” I said with a snap in my tone. “Go play hero somewhere else.”
His expression darkened.
“You don’t know—do you?”
A chill slid down my spine as his brows knitted.
“Know what?” I asked.
“The war is over.”
Relief hit me in tiny bursts of warmth.
“Good,” I said. “Then move so I can go find my parents—”
“Beauty,” his voice dropped. “They’re gone.”
I stared at his emerald eyes for a long time, searching them for answers, but as my chest hollowed, I knew I didn’t need them from him.
“They died in the war. Your entire pack is gone.”
The earth beneath my feet shifted, and my knees buckled. I pressed my right foot heavy into the earth to steady myself.
“No,” I shook my head defiantly and refused to believe him. “No—I’ll find them.”
“You won’t.” He stepped closer. “And being the daughter of an Alpha, you know the law. No werewolf goes rogue.”
“I’m not going with you.”
“You don’t have a choice.”
Before I could react, he tore through the bars and grabbed my hand.
My pulse spiked, and my vision blurred as he pulled me against him.
“Come on,” he said, his voice was softer than I remembered, and that terrified me. “It’s the only way.”
His words gave me no comfort as he pulled me closer to his chest. I broke out into a cold sweat just before the world around me went dark.</align-left><align-center>
</align-center><align-left>
</align-left>

Blog post.

This is a post I talked about two years ago from Facebook when I was at my last straw with the "Almighty Zon." But it is STILL relevant today.

My post focuses on the bots. My book that I wanted to publish is indie, but that's not the ONLY books that get flagged sometimes.

SOMETIMES an author working with a small publisher will have problems with the bots, too! And that is the focus of this blog post.

A lot of us authors are tired of the bots that don't talk to you. A lot of us are tired of never having a human experience. A lot of us are tired of being shut off if we--DARE I SAY! Get pirated if we are a KU exclusive author! But I can tell you this happens! And EVEN NOW!

I know as a reader you get really excited about the author you just met and you want to shout out to the world that they are awesome--who wouldn't! I do that too!

This is me at a New York Book Expo with MY FAVORITE Romance writer Jasinda and her husband--also a writer--Jack! Yeah, I'm short still, but no longer THIS tiny! I also stopped dying my hair blonde. I'm a brunette with very FEW grey hairs at almost 52--thank you very much! But I'm digressing!

When I first discovered Jasinda I wanted to shout on the rooftops! Especially because I was using this writer as an outlet for my waiting for a miscarriage surgery. The book I was reading allowed me to escape my trauma at the time. And weirdly, given the plot? You'd think it wouldn't. BUT it DID. Stripped (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18108903-stripped) was exactly what I needed at the time because I related to the heroine.

Many of you probably feel the same way I do when you discover a new author like this. But here's where I caution you when you share from the roof tops...

Sharing the entire book on a pirate site so others can read it is WRONG in so many ways. I get you want to share it for free because they are good and people need to read them. But this is the wrong way to do it. Not only does the author NOT get paid, but you may very well prevent the author from using Amazon as a way to publish if they are KU exclusive.

I'm what is called a hybrid author. I use small publishers and do indie so I can diversify my income. But here's the thing with that. ONE of my publishers is a KU exclusive and IF you shared those books exclusive to KU? Well, I will not only NOT be able to have those books available, but even my publisher will be run the risk of being shut down. Hence? Those books are no longer published for your reading enjoyment!

When Lenox, my father forced me to leave our pack and my Fallon I was heartbroken. I couldn’t understand why he’d make me leave my mate. She was the only one I’d ever love—how could my own father not understand this? I didn’t mind that my future father-in-law was the co-alpha with my father until it was time for them to retire and for me and Fallon to take over. I was comfortable with being a beta for the next 20 years. It felt right this way. The way White Wolf Waya wanted it.

But instead, my father forced me to leave with him and build a pack of his own. His plan was to kill Ronan, Fallon’s father and become alpha of the entire New England territory. He’d said countless times to me within the year, and I never once doubted he wouldn’t try. In fact, I was ready for him. The spell was supposed to neuter him. Turn him back into a human, and never let him shift again. That was the plan. It was supposed to save everyone because it should have taken affect before he set foot in the sacred circle.

Only it didn’t work the way I’d wanted it too and my father hurt Fallon. When I saw her bruises, the ones my father gave her in his wolf form, I couldn’t hold back. I couldn’t keep my promise to Fallon. I had to see him.

The last thing I wanted to do was hurt Fallon by making her worry about me, but every fiber of my core wanted me to be there to delve out his sentence for killing Fallon’s father. I wouldn’t kill him. That was one promise I’d keep. But that didn’t mean I couldn’t punch him in the throat. Death was normally the sentence for killing a shifter in human form, but now that my father was human, we couldn’t exactly do that. But something tells me him being banished from New England and living out his remaining years as a human was a fitting enough punishment for a born wolf.

Blog post.

I can’t believe you lied to me all those millennia ago, and now, now that I’d most definitely wrap my head around the possibility of aliens, you somehow continue to keep this twisted religious reality alive merely to keep the truth from me. I don’t understand why you perseve it’s okay for humans to worship you. That’s narcissistic at best for any being to keep up such pretenses.

Having said that, it’s one thing to stretch the truth, mainly because of what we are. The mortals don’t exactly understand the powers of shifters, so I, along with the rest of the magical community, keep our true identity hidden to keep all beings safe. But for you to keep from me what you truly are? I don’t get it. You are nothing more than a shifter like me. You aren’t a god—so why continue with the pretenses?

As you once told me many moons ago, our kind is both a positive and a negative in this world—or should I know say in any world. We are shifters and can do a great deal of good for mortals. Many moons ago, I was so grateful you gave me the power to hunt in wolf form for my people and I worshiped you—for only a god could bestow such a gift upon me and my brother.

But you aren’t a god—are you? It’s ridiculous, now and I feel silly for ever misunderstanding the fact you weren’t one. And okay, maybe you didn’t call yourself a god back then. It’s been so many millennia I don’t remember the exact words you expressed, but you certainly didn’t correct me when I bowed down to you in reverence for the gift you’d given me.

To make things further confusing, I’d always hear your proclamations in my head and carried them out because I really assumed I was doing righteous work for a deity. However, all that communication was just between me and my alpha. How could you make me believe I was doing things for the greater good?

That’s truly the one thing about all of this that irks me the most. You made me carry out your wishes and claimed I was doing what the gods wanted, and for that, I’m not so sure I can forgive you. Because if it wasn’t for you, I would have never gone after Morgan in the first place.

Happy Reading,

Amanda

Blog post.

I practically worship the ground this woman walks on. Very few words in any language describe what I feel for this goddess, but I’ll try anyway.

We were born from great power because our family line dates all the way back to the first woman on earth, Lilith. This is why the Kersh line of family witches is so strong and deeply rooted in alchemy magic.

Our love story begins in 300 BC when Skye, known as Aset in that lifetime, first came to me. All of Egypt’s eligible daughters were brought to me when it was time to have a wife. At first, the attention of the women fawning over me was fun. I’ll admit that. I was lonely as the crown prince. Growing up in the palace wasn’t as much fun for me as it was for my ten brothers and sisters.

I had a sense of duty. I needed to carry out the wishes of the king, my father. There was little time for me to engage with anyone my own age. And only because, as the crown prince, I was isolated from everyone but my father and his trusted advisors.

We were living in tumultuous times. Many wanted my progressive father, a man of great honor and dignity, dead. He was kind to all his people, including the servants who cared for us. That was a very progressive and radical way of thinking at the time. However, his people loved him for it. I adopted that very same way of thinking once my father caught pneumonia and passed away at the age of thirty.

I was eighteen when I took the throne, and because it was law, I had to be married within the first six months of my coronation. The women were all pretty, but none of them seemed to have a strong enough character to become my consort. In fact, many of them were more interested in the wealth and prosperity that comes with being a royal. The more the parents paraded their daughters in front of me, the wearier I grew in finding true love.

Sure, my father had always told me to marry for Egypt, but I’d grown up seeing how he looked at my mother with nothing but adoration in his eyes. I wanted that for myself. And just when my time was running out, just as I was about to give up and marry a princess I did not love, Aset walked through the palace doors.

She was a princess in the City of Petra and the most beautiful woman I’d ever laid eyes upon. Her strength and beauty, both inside and out, convinced me that she was the one who’d be my forever.

It took some time to convince her I was worthy of her love. She thought I was only after her beauty. Who could blame her since my reputation was more about compromising a woman’s purity rather than engaging in more righteous behaviors? Still, once I built trust between us, we fell in love and were married soon after.

We reigned for thirty glorious years, adopting much of my father’s radical beliefs. I’d added a few, like paying my servants a fair wage for the services they provided us. I even had them living in the palace with their families—something completely unheard of at the time.

Once the Romans caught wind of my radical ideas, they came to my palace to stage a royal coup d’é·tat. And the rest? Well, you’ll have to wait for Forever Loved to find out more about my forever, the love of my entire being, my sweetness, Skye.”

Raine has been a character I've had stuck in my head since my early twenties. The idea came when I was at a bar and tapped a guy on the shoulder that looked really familiar to me. I'd sworn I'd met him before. He at first thought I was hitting on him so was trying to blow me off, but I insisted I never forget a face and I started rattling off places where we could have run into each other. Turned out I sold him spray paint while we were both working at the same local mall.

We became best friends after that and Raine is really developed because of that one conversation I had with my bestie. That one conversation lead me down a rabbit hole of "what ifs", as in, what if she recognized her lover from a past life? What if her lover was trying to get her to remember because he's a witch. And finally, what if he was trying to protect her from a vampire--hell-bent on killing them both!

Yeah... That's where my mind races to when I come up with a story like Forever Friends.

Happy Reading,

Amanda

Blog post.

Surely you can’t think that I’m a hussy? I’m very particular these days after Adam. Wait? Now, you believe that I’m fickle? Well, I can assure you that both traits were defined by a man who found it difficult to communicate with a vivacious woman such as myself.

I blame Yudi for much of my dilemma early on. Sure, most humans blame their creators, or rather, parents, for their miserable existence. But to be fair, I was the first woman ever made and I call dibs on my creator being the most royal pain in the ass with understanding women.

Yudi wholeheartedly thought I should be subservient to such a fickle, territorial, Neanderthal. The nerve of him! I was Adam’s equal. It’s as simple as that! And Adam should have viewed me as such instead of running away with that seductress Eve. Ugh!

Since Yudi was a god and incapable of possessing the powers of a goddess, I can’t put the full blame on him any longer. He lacks a complete understanding of feminity. I guess that’s what it means to grow up. I can merely speculate since I’m not a human.

I don’t experience the process of growing up since I don’t age. That’s because I am a vampire, destined to walk between worlds where no one will have me. I guess that’s why I made Drake.

It’s strange, really. Yudi made me a companion for his friend Adam, and Adam cast me aside like garbage when he no longer wanted me. To do that to someone is a horrible thing. Which is why I couldn’t ever do that to Drake. He was my first. Not my only creation, of course. There’s Alec. However, I never meant to sire Alec.

As sad as this sounds, if I had the chance to correct my mistake with Alec, I wouldn’t have gone on that walk. I would have let him live his mortal life. But, of course, the gods and goddesses are petty and love watching us all suffer. That’s why I was so drawn to Alec in the first place.

It’s true. I was torn between Dracula and Alec for a while. Who wouldn’t be? Both of them are upstanding men and are quite handsome. However, if it wasn’t for Alec, I may not have realized how much I missed Drake. And now that Alec found his fated mate, I no longer have to feel guilty for loving the fated mate I created for myself.

Drake is my everything. He is the reason for my existence. If Yudi ever did to him what he’d done to my children… Well? Let’s just say I’d rather die daily than live another instant without Drake.

Vampires may not commit suicide. Yudi made sure of that after our first vile, violent spat between each other. I most likely would have destroyed Yudi for smiting my darling Raine if the fates hadn’t intervened and turned me into the first vampire. That is the main reason why I’m glad no one has gone after Dracula, or rather, my beloved Drake.

Lilith has always been a fun character to write about and this is one of the first brainstorms I had while trying to flesh out this character for you in Forever Bound and beyond.

Happy Reading,

Amanda

Yeah... It's certainly been a hot minute since I've posted anything in a blog form, for sure! The past couple of years or so have been a little hard on me and I kinda became a recluse again, shunning myself from the outside world and social media--eek!

Part of that had to do with me being "band mom", part of it was my hormones being out of whack, and part of was my health. Anxiety got the best of me, along with bouts of depression, and mood swings. I could blame it solely on menopause--because yeah--going through that, too, but it was a lot more. However, before I bore you to tears with all of the craziness, let me just say that I'm going back to blogging at the very least once a week so we can all chat! I've really missed all y'all.

This blog will have a lot of character monologues for your reading enjoyment, occasional recipes, and a little about fibromyalgia when I get the inkling to share about the new research into the disease.

Happy Reading & Stay Fabulous,

Amanda
