Starting Saturday, November 7, 2026, Forever Friends will be 100% off to start the series, and Forever Tied, Book Two will be on sale for 99 cents. This sale will end on Cyber Monday and I thought during the next few weeks I introduce some of the characters that near and dear to my heart and/or were difficult to write. I'm going to start with Keme because he was one of my more difficult characters to write. I hope you enjoy this behind the scenes with my research on the character.

When I first thought about writing an ancient werewolf, I wanted one that was powerful and the first of its kind in Native American culture, and also before America was America. When I researched the myth of Matchitehew and Keme is specifically associated with the Fox tribe and the spirit-god Wisakachek, I thought I'd found the perfect myth I could expand upon for the UnearthyVerse world. Zhang had already helped Alec in the previous novel of the Forever Series, Forever Bound, so it seemed only natural for the sorcerer to help Keme control the wolf within him.
These two brothers were granted the power to shape-shift into wolves to help hunt for their tribe, by Wisakachek. But the spirit-god, who we later find out is not who Keme believed him to be, had one strict condition before granting them this great power, they could never harm humans.

In my version,  Wisakachek put the brothers in a deep sleep before transforming them. When they woke and went on the first hunt, Matchitehew couldn't control the beast within him and killed a human. The tribe, having no choice, banished him, but with a warning that they would hunt him since he was an abomination. Keme, fearing the tribe would do the same to him, fled as well, but in search of Zhang.

If you want to learn more about Keme and his origin story, read Forever Cherished.
